Innovation and experimentation in the use of handheld and UAV devices to capture the natural and built environments in 3D are a major research and development initiative at CivicMapper. We have tested the use of new hardware like the American-made Skydio drones to capture hydrologic details of streams and rivers and collect elevation information to help create detailed and accurate terrain models. CivicMapper has also extensively used handheld devices like iPhones to capture highly detailed 3D models of buried stormwater infrastructure.
